Update 1 - Learning
This is the first update since starting and creating this website. A lot has happened since, and I would like to take the time today to do so with this first blog post. I will go over the next steps in this journey as well as a share some of my ideas on what I would like to do with the project.
The title of this post is learning. Let me tell you there has been a lot of it. All about different topics and different aspects related to hummingbirds that I never thought I would have to know. It’s crazy to see how much really goes into bird watching and hummingbird watching. Add the fact that I want to do more than just that with my hobby, it becomes a lot. So I am excited to also share what I have learned.
Hummingbirds
I have always loved the little guys, but I never really dove into them until recently. When I had the opportunity to put up some hummingbird feeders on my balcony of my apartment, I was shocked to see how many hummingbirds showed up. Living in Colorado, I usually see the occasional hummingbird but nothing like what the southern United States gets during migration season. I didn’t expect much but I was wrong.
Before I did any formal research into the little guys, I just put out a chair on my balcony and observed. It was crazy just to take in their daily habits; how aggressive they can be to each other, what time certain ones show up, and even having them get to know me. This is when I invested into a new camera hummingbird feeder (another post on the feeder a different time). The first videos were amazing to see. How close up of a view I had into their world. You can see those videos and photos on Youtube and TikTok.
In all I still want this to be an informative website, so that means I need to actually study up on hummingbirds to be able to produce that. Currently I have been diving into the world of South American hummingbirds, and I hope to show you more on that soon. I just need to read up more. This means my content for the foreseeable future for a bit is going to be purely my photos and videos from my balcony.
Social Media Presence
The lack of experience with creating social media content is also a weakness of mine. Trying to learn about what works on Youtube and TikTok is difficult. All at the same time while trying to learn the tools you need to use in order to create your content. Sometimes it feels like a bit much. To get better at creating, presenting, and enjoying the content I put out will just require time. But I love the direction it is going.
